Although Yohji Yamamoto‘s youthful Ground Y imprint is no stranger to anime collaborations, this forthcoming collection is a pleasant surprise nonetheless. The cost-effective diffusion line has joined forces with One Piece for a special array of thematic graphic gear, reimagining the iconic manga’s key imagery with a puzzle piece theme.
Actor Hayato Isomura and model Mayū Yokota showcase the new goods alongside a slew of Ground Y’s normal, billowy gear, unsurprisingly draped in all-black. The Straw Hat Pirates and their Jolly Roger logo appear in much more stylized forms than the recent UNIQLO collaboration, with Luffy, Sanji and Brook all hidden behind clever puzzle piece graphics, which even include thoughtful cutouts to reveal the layers beneath
Executed on black shirts and drapey balloon pants, the collection is packed with items ideal for the forthcoming transitional season. Adjustable drawstrings allow the wearer to adjust the fit, with shirts cut long enough to function as lightweight coats. Elsewhere, baggy graphic T-shirts sport comparatively conventional branding and imagery of the entire crew.
The collaborative One Piece goods will hit Ground Y’s Japanese web store and select stockists on September 6.
Most recently, Yamamoto’s S’yte sublabel introduced a Junji Ito collaboration.
