It was recently revealed that James Gunn’s upcoming Suicide Squad film would be a reboot rather than a sequel. News now surfaces that characters Amanda Waller and Captain Boomerang will be reprised by the previous film’s actors Viola Davis and Jai Courtney.
According to The Wrap, the film will borrow elements from David Ayer‘s original film while also taking the franchise in a different direction, as part of Warner Bros. strategy of producing disconnected DC Comics films. Although star Will Smith will not return as Deadshot, he will be recast likely by Idris Elba. Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn will return as well alongside Davis and Courtney, but newer characters like King Shark will be showcased as well.
The last tie we saw Davis’ Waller, she was confronted by Ben Affleck’s Batman in Suicide Squad’s post-credit scene where she was pressed for government files tracking metahumans. It’s unlikely this tidbit will be followed up in the reboot, especially since Affleck has stepped down as The Dark Knight.
In other entertainment news, John Cho will play Spike Spiegel in the live-action Cowboy Bebop series.
