Back in November, showrunners for the The Walking Dead announced that a movie spinoff featuring Andrew Lincoln‘s character Rick Grimes was in the works. Rumors circulated that the aforementioned film would be the first of a three-part series, with production set to begin in 2019.
During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick revealed a teaser trailer for the unnamed project, while AMC confirmed it would be part of a series.

The 30-second clip shows a helicopter heading toward an ominous skyline and reveals that the film will be shown in theaters only. Produced by creator Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment and distributed by Universal Pictures, no official release date has been set yet. “For many years, fans have talked about things in the apocalypse they want to see and now we have an opportunity to explore those stories, beginning with the character who started it all, Rick Grimes,” shared David Madden, president of original programming for AMC.
TWD also premiered the trailer for its 10th season, airing on Sunday, October 6. The new season welcomes Thora Birch and Kevin Carroll to the cast, while Danai Gurira who plays Michonne shared during the panel that she would be exiting the series after this season.
