It’s easy to absentmindedly click though an Oscars best-dressed list, watching a steady stream of floor-length gowns and zillion-dollar diamond chokers go by, and assume that the only practical takeaway is your personal bias about who looked most glamorous (Gaga, or someone else). But we’re here to bring some service to your second-day recaps, highlighting some of the best beauty looks of the night and the exact shoppable products that made them happen.
Better yet, unlike the luxury fashion designers whose name you can’t pronounce (and designs you can’t afford), these beauty brands are ones you know and can even grab off the shelves at your local Target. From Lady Gaga’s $9 nail polish to Regina King’s falsies, scroll through for a full breakdown of all the drugstore cheapies worn at the Oscars and the Vanity Fair Afterparty — all of which make high-glam celebrity feel a tad more relatable.
At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.

The award-winning actress and musician wore a $9 nail polish to the Oscars, just like she did at the SAG Awards — only this time, it was a baby pink shade called Stirring Secrets from Essie’s just-launched spring collection.

Makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan partnered with Weleda for the Oscars Vanity Fair party glam, using the brand’s beloved Skin Food moisturizer to prep the actress’ skin pre-makeup. The moisturizer is only $10 at Target, and Fisher’s cherry-red lipstick is also a steal: Avon’s True Color Perfectly Matte Lipstick in the shade Red Supreme, which sells for $8.

The Black Panther actress stunned in an ornate, polished updo crafted by celebrity stylist Ursula Stephen. "I’m so happy we ended up with a slicked-back look," Stephen said. "The deep side part and pearl pins really helped bring out the champagne-colored tones in her dress.” To make the accessories stay in place from the Oscars ceremony all the way through an outfit change for the afterparty, Stephen used Love Beauty & Planet’s $7 hair spray to set the style.

To match the sultry vibe of her ivory strapless side-slit gown, Regina King was glammed to the nines. Her makeup artist Latrice Johnson went for the high-low look, pairing the $40 Pat McGrath lipstick with Kiss falsies from the drugstore.

Lana Condor

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before breakout star Lana Condor turned heads at Vanity Fair ’s event with a floral minidress and a bright, poreless complexion. Makeup artist Anton Khachaturian partnered with Yes To for the event, using the brand’s Coconut Oil Stick to give skin a boost of dewiness. "I applied a generous amount directly from the stick to Lana’s face and then massaged it into the skin by hand," Khachaturian said. "Side note: It photographs beautifully, so I made sure to apply this to Lana’s legs to give them that red carpet-ready hydration.”

Amanda Seyfried

Celebrity stylist Jenny Cho gave Amanda Seyfried a textured loose ponytail for the Vanity Fair party. “I absolutely loved Amanda’s ballerina-esque dress with rhinestones by Alexander McQueen," Cho said of the inspiration. "I wanted the hair to be a little more fun for the party, so I created a texture pony.” To prep the hair — and really get a lot of lift — Cho used Suave’s Captivating Curl Mousse before diffusing the hair dry and pulling it up in a ponytail.

Celebrity stylist Nai’vasha Johnson gave Serena Williams a super-high, slick ponytail for her appearance. "I began by prepping Serena’s wet hair with Dove’s Re-Styling Milk, which I like using on both dry and wet hair, to redefine the natural texture before blowdrying it," Johnson said.

Kristin Cavallari wore her hair in polished beachy waves, swept to one side and styled with sparkly pins. Tresemmé global stylist Justine Marjan used the brand’s shine serum to get that almost wet-looking sleekness.
