In a world that’s now over-populated with comic book films and remakes, fledging indie studio A24 is aiming to change all that. Having only been in the game for six years, A24 has already managed to turn the industry on its head through its unconventional ways and foreword thinking, establishing itself as Hollywood’s new leading tastemaker.
As the company that has already given us the cult classic hit Ex Machina to the 2016 Academy Award winning Best Picture Moonlight, A24 is now shining light on its latest auteur-driven feature, The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Helmed by Joe Talbot, the film has already opened up at the Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews, and ultimately winning the Best Director and Special Jury Awards; no surprise there as many of A24’s films have been critically-acclaimed successes.
Marking Talbot’s debut full-length feature, the film chronicles Jimmie Fails’ character as he tries to find his sense of home and belonging in San Francisco by reclaiming his grandfather’s Victorian home. The script was written by both Talbot and Fails and is loosely based off of Talbot’s life.
The Last Black Man in San Francisco, which stars Jimmie Fails (American Paradise), Rob Morgan (Stranger Things), Jonathan Majors (White Boy Rick), Tichina Arnold (Martin), and Danny Glover, hits theaters June 14.
In more entertainment news, Marvel officially shared the Avengers: Endgame synopsis.
THE LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO is our kind of summer blockbuster. Soaring, epic, pure poetry. So excited to share Joe Talbot and Jimmy Fails’ story with the world. pic.twitter.com/TwQQcBtSX4
