When Paris Hilton dropped her new summer hit last month with an accompanying music video featuring Kim Kardashian West (if you haven’t seen it yet, drop what you’re doing right now), I was shocked by the sudden resurgence of fashion trends it featured from the crazy era that was the early 2000s. From low-rise jeans to shrug sweaters, there are many trends that I’m grateful were left in the decade ruled by Britney, Paris, and Lindsey. I thought the pop song was the end of it as I shifted my fashion focus to the ’90s, but little did I know that a few other trends have been making their way out of 2009 and right into our closets 10 years later—namely, jewelry trends of the early aughts.
From the brightly colored jewels I’ve been coveting from The Last Line to the beaded flower choker I’m wearing right at this very moment, several of this season’s most popular jewelry trends look like they walked straight off the pages of Tiger Beat. Paris Hilton seems to be ahead of the curve, as per usual, and while my jeans will remain high-waisted, I’m already incorporating gold hoops and other 2000s jewelry into my summer outfits. Now that Paris’s catchy song is stuck in your head, keep reading for the 2000s jewelry trends that are also sure to stick this summer.
In 2005 I had a choker that said "cute but evil," and, as fun as that was, I’m looking to upgrade my choker game in 2019 with the modern takes below.
The bigger the hoops… the better the ear game. There is nothing like a classic gold hoop to make an outfit more elegant.
When it comes to necklaces, the more the merrier. Slowly but surely, I have been amassing my necklace collection, and I am happy to report that you can no longer see my chest.
In the winter monthsm every piece of my jewelry was gold, forming a beautiful and fluid aesthetic. Now that it’s summer, however, that theme has gone out the window as I’m getting my hands (and ears and neck) on the brightest and boldest bracelets, necklaces, and rings I can find.
…are a girl’s best friend. That’s all.
They’re back and better than ever. I will happily be wearing puka shells on every limb with every bathing suit I own this summer.
Now ride this nostalgia train all the way into the ’90s with these 10 jewelry trends.
