It’s Monday again, but don’t let that get you down. A new week means a new opportunity to enjoy all the music, film, and other fun things to do in Los Angeles.
America Adjacent
Monday, March 18
In Skylight Theater Company’s staging of this powerful new play by Boni B. Alvarez, six pregnant women from the Philippines share a small apartment in East Hollywood and attempt to make their way through life in the U.S. without visas or citizenship, struggling to provide better lives for their children. The play’s run continues through March 24.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Tuesday, March 19
LACMA screens the 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as part of the museum’s $2 weekday matinee series. If you’re in a position to catch an afternoon flick, make it this classic, and then take a spin through the galleries while you’re there.
The Women Artists of Disney
Wednesday, March 20
Mindy Johnson’s new book, Ink & Paint: The Women of Walt Disney’s Animation is a groundbreaking investigation into the significant contributions made by women in the early days of Disney. Many of these stories have been erased for decades, but in this free conversation at the Pasadena Central Library, Johnson will share her findings, along with animation clips, illustrations, and more.
Spare Parts for Broken Hearts, Dancing Tongues, Potty Mouth
Thursday, March 21
Head to the Hi Hat in Highland Park for an evening of mostly local rock and roll. Think post-grunge, post-punk, and a little pop. Thanks to corporate patron Dr. Martens, this impressive bill is totally free with your online RSVP.
Club Something featuring Reggie Watts and John Tejada
Friday, March 22
Club Something at the Sweat Spot bills itself as a “360 dance-driven experience” complete with music, dance performances, and even a vibrating dance floor(?), which all sounds like a pretty fun night. Reggie Watts and John Tejada join forces under their duo moniker, Wajatta, for the soundtrack.
Sound by SoulCycle x Ciara Concert Ride
Friday, March 22
Want to ride out of the week with an extremely L.A. activity? SoulCycle presents a special concert by R&B diva Ciara, during which instructor Angela Davis will lead 40 participants through a SoulCycle ride. The event is free with advance registration. If you don’t snag one of the seats, a SoulCycle x Ciara playlist will hit Apple Music shortly after, so you can stage your own version of the experience.
