Throw it back to 1989 with a screening of this rom com classic. The Rob Reiner film raises eternal questions. Among them, can a man and a woman be friends without things turning romantic? Also, can we have Meg Ryan’s collection of vintage pleated, flowy trousers?
Mardi Gras Celebration at the Original Farmers Market

L.A. isn’t the Mardi Gras capital that some cities are, but there are still some options if you want to laissez les bon temps rouler. The Original Farmers Market will stage their 30th annual celebration, featuring live Zydeco music, strolling entertainers, food, activities, and many, many beads. Another highlight of the festivities: the “Mutti Gras” pet parade.
De Armas Tomar: Women in the Mexican Revolution
Wednesday, March 6
In honor of Women’s History Month, the East L.A. library hosts scholars Dr. Gloria Arjona and Uni Brioso for an interactive, bilingual lecture on the role of women in the Mexican Revolution. Their participation has often been obscured in historical narratives; Arjona and Brioso will bring these women to life with storytelling, music, archival photographs, and live performances.
Adopt the Arts Honors with Moby and Friends
Thursday, March 7
This annual fundraiser supports the work of local non-profit Adopt the Arts Foundation, which promotes arts education in public elementary schools. This year, the gala honors Moby, The Crystal Method and Kate Nash will perform, and Jane Lynch and Mayim Bialik will host. After the main event at the Wiltern, Shepard Fairey djs an after-party at the Line Hotel.
Miss Eaves at the Hi Hat
Thursday, March 7
Miss Eaves is the musical persona of feminist multimedia artist Shanthony Exum. The New York-based Exum’s alter-ego is all about confidence, female empowerment, and using high-energy dance pop jams to break down the patriarchy. The show, which also includes Abby Jeanne and Jagged Baptist Club, is free with online RSVP.
KROQ Locals Only Fest
Friday, March 8
Local radio powerhouse KROQ has assembled some of their favorite local bands for two nights of shows at the Teragram Ballroom. Tonight’s lineup includes Dear Boy, Kitten, Sleeptalk, Teammate, and Trapdoor Social–which is a lot of music to get for a ticket price of under $11.
