Welcome to a new week, full of new opportunities to enjoy all the music, film, and other fun things to do in Los Angeles.
Punk Rock Night Market
Monday, July 15
Spend your Monday night at the ’80s-themed Slipperclutch bar, sipping on highballs and shopping for records, vintage clothes, and assorted treasures from local vendors. Entry is free; DJ Emily Strange spins the rock soundtrack.
Mitski at Hollywood Palladium
Tuesday, July 16
Mitski has been one of our favorite performers in recent years, but after the intensity of working and touring for her acclaimed records Puberty 2 and Be the Cowboy, she’s announced this run of shows will be her last for a while. Be sure to catch her while you can.
Dirty Projectors & Deerhunter
Wednesday, July 17
Head to the Wiltern for an impressive indie-rock double-header. Dirty Projectors worked on their most recent release in L.A., with collaborations from HAIM, Amber Mark, Syd, and other local favorites.
Solange When I Get Home Director’s Cut Screening
Thursday, July 18
LACMA is one of a small group of museums that will screen a special, extended edition of Solange’s visual album/short film/video extravaganza When I Get Home. Directed by Solange in collaboration with Alan Ferguson, Terence Nance, Jacolby Satterwhite, and Ray Tintori, the 41-minute film features footage of several large-scale sculptural works created by artists Autumn Knight and Robert Pruitt just for the production.
Skirball Sunset Concerts: Gaby Moreno
Thursday, July 18
The Skirball’s free summer concert series starts tonight with Gaby Moreno. Moreno calls her style “Spanglish folk soul,” a bilingual blend of blues, jazz, soul, R&B, and pop.
Roadium Drive-In Summer Fridays: Selena
Friday, July 12
Essential biopic Selena screens tonight in a classic setting: Roadium Drive-In in Torrance. Not a pop-up or screen-on-the-green, Roadium is one of the last true drive-ins around. The Summer Fridays series shows throwback faves–and we hear the In-N-Out burger truck might roll through to supply snacks.
