Time for another spectacular summertime weekend. Here’s a roundup of the best things to do, from an LGBTQ film fest to a Little Tokyo food extravaganza.
OutFest
Through July 28
The leading LGBTQ film showcase promises to outdo itself with a slate of more than 150 features, docs, and shorts presented throughout L.A. Don’t miss the opening- and closing-night galas, which have previously screened such gems as Studio 54, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, and Other People.
Yappy Hour at the Hammer
Friday, July 19
Pug Nation, Much Love Animal Rescue, and MaeDay Rescue co-present this dog adoption event at the Hammer. See some art, sip some wine, bring home a friend for life.
Delicious Little Tokyo
Friday & Saturday, July 19 & 20
Eat your way through Little Tokyo at this annual food fair. Sample the chicken ramen at My Ramen Bar, chestnut ice cream at Kyoto Chestnuts Cafe, or 33 other special dishes at 33 spots.
Hugh Jackman
Friday & Saturday, July 19 & 20
Greatest Showman stans, eat your heart out: The criminally talented Aussie actor hits the Hollywood Bowl with songs from his underappreciated P.T. Barnum biopic, Les Misérables, and, who knows, maybe some Wolverine karaoke (OK, probably not, but let us dream).
KX Fest
Saturday & Sunday, July 20 & 21
Koreatown rapper Dumbfoundead headlines this two-day celebration of Korean music, art, and culture. Expect generous servings of K-pop, R&B, and DFD’s patented brand of smart, soulful hip-hop.
Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Goings On
Saturday, July 20
From an astronaut’s appearance at Dodger Stadium to an anniversary screening of the moon landing at the Paley Center, there are all sorts of ways to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission’s “small step for man.” L.A. mag resident historian Chris Nichols rounded them up here.
Ice Cream Yoga
Sunday, July 21
In honor of very important national holiday National Ice Cream Day, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in Larchmont Village is hosting a 75-minute yoga sesh followed by, you guessed it, ice cream. The class is intended for all levels and walk-ups are welcome for 20 bucks (tickets are $15 in advance).
