Street Food Legends Tacos 1986 Returns to Koreatown for One-Month Pop-Up

Taco comeback

Tacos 1986 is making its triumphant return to Koreatown next month, popping up Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. in front of the now-closed Beer Belly on Western. The restaurant parking lot will also play to other pop-ups throughout the month, including Love Hour on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and Sumo Dog on Sundays.

Teddy’s to Echo Park, for real

Teddy’s Red Tacos has confirmed its new Echo Park location to L.A. Taco, telling the site that they’ll be popping up inside the Club Bahia parking lot starting on Thursday. And, because of the off-street location, they’ll also be offering booze.

Doing good

Chef Javier Ramos, formerly of Sqirl and his pop-ups in the closed Trois Familia space, is back with another one-off event, this time at Mh Zh in Silver Lake. On Monday, September 9 Ramos will be cooking up a variety of dishes for charity, with all sales (not just proceeds) benefitting the Rainforest Alliance.

The wonders of Woon

Life & Thyme is back with another look at a popular LA restaurant. This time it’s Woon in Historic Filipinotown, which serves up homestyle Chinese food with a very familial flair.

Spam alert

Spam is starting up a pop-up restaurant at Lono in Hollywood. The limited-run event is done in conjunction with the Foodbeast team, and goes down September 7, 14, and 21. The event itself is free, but diners should RSVP to give themselves a better chance at actually making it inside to try the various musubi on offer.

Melrose changes

The Darkroom is up for sale on Melrose, though the bar itself remains open. A listing sent around by real estate agents show the ten-year-old place going for $350,000 plus rent north of $14,000 per month. Eater reached out to ownership to find out what’s next for the Darkroom, but so far has not heard back.

Go Get Em Tiger’s newest location lands at the recently redone Music Center Plaza in Downtown on Thursday. Expect hours from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. most days, with a continuation to 9 p.m. on show nights.
