Sterling Ruby’s fashion foray as the brand owner of S.R. STUDIO.LA.CA this year isn’t stalling the interdisciplinary artist from launching exhibitions. Ruby is set to launch his first solo exhibition with Gagosian London this fall for a sprawling presentation entitled “Acts+Table.” The forthcoming show will display new sculptures alongside mixed-media works found in his two series, ‘ACTS’ (2008-18) and ‘TABLES’ (2015-19).
“In an oeuvre spanning sculpture, ceramics, painting, drawing, collage, video, and garments, Ruby continually returns to themes of societal and art historical friction, generating feelings of anxiety and agitation by contrasting clean lines and recognizable objects with coarse and uncanny forms,” said Gagosian London in a statement.
Accompanying the exhibit is a graphics-packed catalog including essays by the curator and critic, Jenelle Porter. Visit Gagosian’s website to learn more and stay tuned for a recap.
