After making his New York Fashion Week debut with the Spring/Summer 2019 season, Anthony Vaccarello returned to Paris to showcase his Fall/Winter 2019 collection for Saint Laurent. The latest runway show — the creative director’s second official menswear offering for the luxury house — drew upon references from the ’80s, which were underscored by sculptural lines, sharp tailoring and a glow-in-the-dark finale.
The glitz and shine akin to the decade of inspiration was presented generously in Vaccarello’s new assortment. Metallics, sequins and glitter were used on designs throughout, including collared shirts, blazers and zip-up bomber jackets. Meanwhile, the streamlined palette of black, gold and gray helped to balance out the shimmer and maintain a subdued and elegant aesthetic. The designer’s one color exception was a rich shade of red, offered in small doses on the likes of a leather biker jacket and a button-up shirt found peeking from under a cheetah-print crewneck. As for other prints, a black and white stripe skewed the looks in a clean and classic direction.
Fitted suits, defined by faint pinstripes and zig-zag patterns, were layered in accordingly to provide more formal options. For variety, a pair of leather bottoms also came into play to show a less serious side to the range. Accessories, including furs and fedoras, received their fair share of shine, particularly in the finale. Models closed the show in a tunnel filled with black light and infinity mirrors, unveiling fluorescent dress shoes and glow-in-the-dark shades that cemented the ’80s influence.
