The 156-room hotel would replace 40 apartments.
The owner of half-acre site just north of Hollywood Boulevard has received approvals to redevelop the property with hotel, but now faces an appeal seeking to halt the project.
The proposed development would rise from a half-acre property at 1719 Whitley Avenue, replacing 40 existing residential units in six buildings. Plans call for the construction of a 10-story building featuring 156 guest rooms and a small gift shop above a three-level, 122-car garage.
