Plus lots of booze, wine, and brunch around the city
One for the ages
Here’s a cool one: Porto’s Bakery, the massively popular Cuban spot with locations across Southern California, is teaming up with Pali Wine Co. for a big party to celebrate the one year anniversary of their tasting room. The Arts District affair runs June 2 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and not only features Porto’s guava pulled pork sandwiches and potato balls, but also new salad and dessert items unique to this particular event. For $25, diners will also be able to get a paired glass of Pali wine, served right in the wine company’s tasting room at 811 Traction Avenue.
Pop around
Pop’s Bagels will be hopping around Hollywood and Los Feliz next week, starting a three-day run of pop-ups at a variety of locations. First up is an evening (9 p.m. to midnight) session at MiniBar in Hollywood on Friday, May 31, followed the next day by brunch bagels at Little Dom’s and then, on Sunday, one final pop-up at 101 Coffee Shop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In the room
The Magic Castle’s seance room is being repurposed for a series of dinners with new chef Jason Fullilove. The $225 a head dinner parties run six courses, with wine pairings along the way, and can seat anywhere from eight to 12 diners per night.

Garage wine party
The Garagiste Wine Festival hits Glendale on June 21 and 22 this year. The festival focuses on micro-wineries from Angeleno Wine Company and beyond, with pours from dozens of options across both days. Tickets start at $70 a head, and include some food.
Take a walk
Speaking of alcohol, there’s an upcoming Maker Walk happening in the Arts District that focuses on some of the city’s prominent local food and drink manufacturers. That includes everyone from Soylent to Angel City Brewery and Greenbar Distillery, with a stop at Crafted Kitchen’s communal space as well. The free event is put on by the city of LA, and goes down on May 31.
Over the fire
LA Magazine has details on Tehran Market’s ongoing kebab cookout in Santa Monica, where loads of Iranian meats and vegetables are put over coals right in the parking lot. The iconic, 30-year-old market has been grilling its kebabs for years, and hopes to continue to do so long into the future.
Ronan on the weekends
Melrose Italian player Ronan is launching brunch as of June 2, with a scaled-down menu that focuses on things like potato pizzas with egg, as well as salads, coffee, and of course booze. Customers will order at the counter instead of being served tableside, but otherwise it’s the same blistered pies as ever before. The first day is June 2 with hours running 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the opening menu is below.
