Debuted during the San Diego Comic-Con, the second trailer includes new gruesome footage of Pennywise tormenting the now grown up Losers Club juxtaposed with the younger versions of the characters from IT: Chapter 1.
The clip kicks off with the grown up Losers Club, played by Bill (James McAvoy), Richie (Bill Hader), Ben (Jay Ryan), Mike (Isaiah Mustafa), Eddie (James Ransone), and Bev (Jessica Chastain), reuniting at a Chinese restaurant, a famous scene taken directly from Stephen King‘s novel of the same name. Soon the kids remember the horrific experiences they shared 27-years prior in Derry, Maine, as well as the evil that still resides in the town.
In one clip McAvoy (who plays adult Bill) can be seen following a kid into a funhouse. Hiding inside is Pennywise (portrayed by Bill Skarsgård), who then confronts both Bill and the child by dragging a frighteningly long tongue against the funhouse glass wall. Pennywise then continues to smash his head against the wall, therefore distorting his skull. Bill then begs for the evil clown to take his own life instead of the child’s. Finally the trailer ends with the adults heading back to Pennywise’s lair located in a dilapidated house.
The follow-up film takes place nearly three decades after the events of 2017’s IT, considering the evil that revisits the town of Derry, Maine comes every 27 years. Along with the trailer, Warner Bros. also shared a new poster for the film featuring the eyes of Pennywise with the text, "IT ENDS."
See if IT: Chapter 2 can surpass its own status of being the highest grossing horror film of all-time when it hits theaters September 6, 2019. The first chapter managed to pull in $700 million USD off a budget of $35 million USD.
