Monthly rent for the rustic dwelling is $2,045
Located not in Middle Earth but just a block from Sony Studios, Culver City’s beloved “Hobbit Houses” were designed and built between 1946 and 1970 by Lawrence Joseph, an artist who worked for Disney and Lockheed.
Per the Los Angeles Conservancy’s page on the landmarked complex, “Joseph redesigned an existing single-family residence and added two two-story buildings with multiple units. An expert carpenter and sailor, he also created nautically themed interiors for the three buildings.”
Now up for grabs in the whimsical Storybook-style compound is an upper level unit with one bedroom and one bathroom. Among its notable features are leaded glass windows, vertical-grain boat plank flooring, fifteen-foot ceilings in the living room, and built-in furniture with hardware made from boat latches.
Monthly rent for the rustic residence, which comes with one assigned parking space, is $2,045.
