While continuously rolling out new sneakers like the Air Force 1 with removable Swooshes, Nike has announced it will be using a new cushioning system called Joyride that uses small beads, following its previous cushioning methods like Nike Air and Nike React.
After taking ten years to make, this innovation is engineered to keep the wearer’s legs comfortable and fresh. Upon testing 150 materials, the sportswear giant decided to use TPE, a copolymer of plastic and rubber, for the beads which are placed inside zonally-tuned pods, allowing the foam to expand in all directions. This technology results in a dynamic footbed which is shaped to your foot and makes it feel personalized depending on your stride.
The first sneaker silhouette to house this cushioning system is the Nike Joyride Run Flyknit. These shoes, designed for all runners and offering smooth transition, will be available to Nike Members from July 25, with a global release following on August 15. Nike will also be dropping more silhouettes with Joyride in the near future so stay tuned.
