Nike and Stone Island have teamed up on a golf capsule right in time for the 2019 Open Championship hitting Northern Ireland this week. The two-piece assortment encompasses a jacket and crewneck that combine Nike’s performance properties with Stone Island’s knack for innovative fabrications.
Each style has been constructed to accommodate the normal range of motion experienced with a swing and includes various pockets for holding the likes of golf balls, tees and gloves. The pieces are crafted in materials such as military specification cotton, weather-resistant textiles and adaptive fibers in order to help control body temperature throughout gameplay. Colors include grey and blue for both items, while the crewneck is also offered in yellow for a bolder option.
“Knowing that the conditions during the tournament can change quickly, and can be quite challenging, we wanted to focus on outerwear. As experts in creating product that performs as well as it looks, Stone Island was a natural partner in finding the best solutions," said Kelly Tweeden, VP and creative director of Nike Golf, Nike Tennis and Nike Skateboarding.
Stone Island creative director Carlo Rivetti added: “Working on garments with Nike Golf gave us the opportunity to create true technical and performing pieces. It is the first time for Stone Island on the field of play, in one of the most noble sports in the world.”
The Stone Island x Nike capsule will debut at the Open at Royal Portrush taking place from July 18-21. It releases globally starting on July 25.
