With only a few more months to go before Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters, new footage for the highly-anticipated film was released by Disney during its D23 Expo event held over the weekend.
Coming in at just over two-minutes, the video includes footage from past films in the franchise along with new clips from the The Rise of Skywalker and a first look at dark Rey. The footage in question sees Rey wearing black and wielding a red dual-lightsaber, similar to the lightsaber Darth Maul uses.
During the panel, Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, spoke about what it’s like touching both sides of the Force in her third Star Wars film. “It’s been great,” she says. “I also think, weirdly, it’s been the most human thing because everybody struggles. Everybody has their things in life where one thing’s pulling me this way, one thing’s pulling me this way. What’s this journey going to be and where am I going to end up? So it’s been fun to play that.”
Director J.J. Abrams also confirmed that unseen footage of Carrie Fisher from Star Wars: The Force Awakens would be repurposed to craft a storyline for the character in The Rise of Skywalker.
