Some would posit that New Balance‘s clunkier models are fashion marmite; perhaps the new 990v5 isn’t sleek enough to be stylish, or they’re displeased that the footwear company recently revived the 801 silhouette. Those people will be extremely unhappy to behold New Balance’s latest creation: the 990/801 trail runner.
Key characteristics from each sneaker are carried over into the hybrid design, including the clunky, rugged outsole from the 801 and the familiar paneled grey suede upper from the 990. The cushioning of the 801 sole ensures all-day comfort, though it will make this hybrid somewhat weightier than the original 990, with an Ortholite insole for extra support. Reflective accents on the uppers add high visibility even in low-light situations, with the familiar ankle padding and branding all intact.
The unique New Balance sneakers are available to purchase exclusively via Foot Locker’s site in mid-August for $185 USD.
Most recently, Sneakersnstuff premiered an exclusive New Balance 577 "Grown Up" model.
