First issued back in January, Maison Margiela‘s playful take on low-top canvas skate shoes has arrived at more stockists. The versatile sneakers have been elevated with one of the label’s signature design flourishes: the tabi toe.
Drawing influence from traditional Japanese footwear, Margiela was one of the first fashion houses to embrace the oft-controversial tabi detailing, with iterations of its now-iconic silhouette only recently introduced in men’s sizes. This low-top sneaker is a far cry from the original, heeled boot, instead sporting a canvas upper and vulcanized rubber outsole.
Offered here in both black and black/blue colorways, the sleek shoe is clearly inspired by classic skate kicks, with five eyelets and a reinforced heel for extra sturdiness. Margiela branding is printed along the white midsole, adding further visual interest, with white contrast stitching reinforcing the classic skate motif.
The new makeups of Margiela’s latest low-top shoe are available on HBX’s site with other styles offered via stockists like SSENSE.
Recently, we broke down Margiela’s dynamically-deconstructed Fall/Winter 2019 runway show.
