Seen earlier last week, LOEWE‘s multi-pocketed headband has returned in the label’s inaugural Fall/Winter 2019 editorial. This time, Creative Director Jonathan Anderson has brought on Tyler Mitchell for the photography – best known for shooting Beyconé for the September 2018 cover of US Vogue, making him one of the youngest, and the first African-American artist to shoot the cover. In a press release, Anderson noted, "Tyler is able to pull out the character in anyone. That´s why I think he´s perfect for this Publication project.”
The imagery was taken amidst the dusty, stone-lined pathways and historic façades of Piedra del Rey Moro and Museo de Santa Cruz in Toledo, Spain, an idyllic backdrop for the eccentrically opulent garments. In 1986, Toledo was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its unique cultural identity, the result of Christian, Muslim and Jewish influences that have co-existed over hundreds of years. The complex web of social and architectural roots have been drawn upon to reflect the complex narrative of the collection.
Apart from the aforementioned headband, featured pieces include masterfully-tailored pieces and deconstructed silhouettes like billowing knit cardigans, oversized suits, striped long-sleeves and pants, quilted patchwork blousons and elongated sweaters, doused in a series of soft pastels and burnished beige-toned patinas.
Highlights like the high zip-up boots and a pinstripe shirt with fur trim showcase playful applications over traditional staples. Other pieces like a herringbone-clad jacket and pants, shirt with Marylin Monroe graphics, studded leather headwear and an array of carrying options uniformly spotlight Anderson’s refreshingly youthful spin on traditional silhouettes.
