There’s no info card in the box, but I did get this snowy landscape with horse postcard!
Bitsy’s Smart Crackers, 1 oz. – Buy a case of 6 boxes with five of the 1 oz. bags for $32.99
These are graham crackers with a bit more vegetables mixed in than you might expect. At first bite, they taste indistinguishable from a s’mores staple but in the aftertaste, I found the sweet potato quite noticeable. I think these would be a good way to include a veggie in an on-the-go snack for kids.
Zoya Nail Polish in Ruthie – Retail Value $10
Zoya Nail Polish in Jack – Retail Value $10
These are full-size nail polishes that are “Big 10 Free” which means they don’t include ingredients such as formaldehyde or parabens and are vegan as well. Ruthie is a cream raspberry shade and Jack is a neutral sand color. Both colors applied smoothly and Ruthie was opaque in just one coat. These are great colors together and I can see myself wearing them often this winter.
Undercover Quinoa Milk Chocolate Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt, 1 oz. sample – Buy 8, 2oz. bags for $39.99
Oh man, yum!! This was my favorite part of the box, probably because it tasted the most like a straight-up indulgent treat. These are bars of crisp quinoa coated in chocolate and they really nail the balance between the two flavors.
Primal Kitchen Coconut Cashew Collagen Protein Bar – Buy a box of 12 for $29.99
This bar is gluten, grain, and dairy-free with only three grams of sugar. The coconut oil makes it stick to the wrapper and a little slick to hold but at least gives the bar a great aroma as soon as you open the packaging. It’s been a long time since I’ve thought of myself as a picky eater but this bar brought back memories of being a kid afraid to eat anything green. It might be an acquired taste for me but I can see it being a good post-workout snack, especially for someone who is following a paleo diet.
GoMacro Macrobar Protein Pleasure Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip – Buy a 12 bar tray for $34.95
I had an easier time with this bar, perhaps because peanut butter and chocolate are my favorite flavors for granola bars. This is a family-owned company and the bar is non-GMO, vegan, and gluten-free. The texture is quite chewy making it feel more substantial than just a snack.
Kelapo Coconut Oil and Ghee – Buy a 5 pack for $4.14
This sachet of coconut oil and ghee (clarified butter, which has no lactose or casein and so is safe for those sensitive to dairy) is meant to be added to your coffee. If you put it in the blender it should whip up to a creamy foam. I tried it straight in my coffee and was pleasantly surprised, it felt rich but didn’t overpower the coffee flavor. The mouthfeel reminded me of a hot buttered rum!
Partners All Natural Crackers, Olive Oil & Sea Salt and Everything & More – Buy pack of 6, 4 oz. packs $15.80
This was the only item in this month’s box that I had previously tried. These crackers are crisp without being dry and had a good snap to them. Now I just need to buy some cheese…
Neoh Cross Bar Chocolate Crunch – Buy a 12 pack $24.90
Despite tasting more like a candy bar, this chocolate covered crunch bar is actually keto friendly and quite low in sugar, only 1 gram. The crisps are made with soy protein and tapioca and are pretty crunchy. If like me, you have a real sweet tooth this could be a good alternative choice.
Celestial Dreams Aroma Buttons, 2 oz. – Buy a 4 oz. box for $12.00
For use with a tea light burner, these are small wax buttons that are infused with essential oils. Unfortunately, the box I received did not list what the aroma is and I don’t have a smart enough nose to guess beyond it smells a bit of lavender. I live with an asthmatic so lighting candles are a no-go in the house but even in the box, they have a calming scent. I imagine these would be relaxing along with a bubble bath.
Karma Cinnamon Wrapped Cashews, 1.5 oz – Buy a box of 1.5 oz. bags for $31.80
This is the first time I’ve had cashews still in their natural skin. These nuts are also coated in cinnamon and sugar and manage to not be too sweet. I love nuts as a snack at work and would definitely make a habit of these.
Z!NT Collagen, 2 oz. – Buy a 1 lb bag for $26.99
Collagen supplements are meant to help a variety of things such as hair strength, skin texture, and even be beneficial to your joints. I found it frustrating that nowhere on the packaging does it say how and how much of the powder they recommend taking. On their website, it says one tablespoon in the morning and a second in the evening and you can dissolve it in cold water or mix it in with your coffee. It dissolves easily and I didn’t notice the taste. It’s too soon to say if it’s having an effect but I’m curious to see how supple my joints get.
Ener C Multivitamin Drink Mix, 0.3 oz. – Buy a box of 30 packets for $13.99
I hate that feeling when you’re on the cusp of coming down with a cold, it makes me feel so helpless! Multivitamin powders like this at the very least let me feel like I’m doing something to dodge illness. Mixed with water it becomes an effervescent drink and I love that this brand has no artificial sweeteners and uses real fruit juice powder.
Thrive Culinary Algae Oil – Buy a 2 pack of 16.9 oz bottles for $27.98
I had no idea you could get cooking oil from algae! This is a neutral cooking oil with a high smoke point so you can use it without worrying about setting off any kitchen smoke alarms. It has 75% less saturated fat than olive oil. I’d miss the olive oil flavor too much to switch over entirely but this was fun to try.
Organic Initiative Revolution in a Box – Buy a pack of 16 tampons for $5.49
This box included a sampler of feminine hygiene products – pad, tampons with and without applicators, and pantyliner. For those looking to reduce their plastic use, this company offers a great way to do that with these plastic-free products. They are made with organic cotton, so no synthetic fibers, and are completely biodegradable.
The Verdict: I liked the variety of items in this box and with 14 different things (not counting doubles) it was a good amount to explore. This box feels suited best to those who like to follow closely health and wellness trends and are comfortable with snacks that taste like health food. I wish there had been fewer protein bars but I was very impressed with the two full-size nail polishes ($20 value) and will be relying on those Ener C sachets to get through January.
