Following the first 2019 XXL Freshman Cypher with DaBaby, Megan Thee Stallion, YK Osiris, and Lil Mosey, the famed hip-hop publication has returned with its latest edition featuring rap-heavyweights Blueface, YBN Cordae, and Rico Nasty.
The first to hit their verse was the high-energy Rico Nasty, who spit with precision over the same beat that was introduced during the first cypher. She maintains her idiosyncratic flow that transfuses a sense of punk-rock energy into her style. As can be expected, her lyrical content didn’t disappoint: "I just be shocking these bitches like Pikachu/Don’t run away from when I run into you/It can get surgical, personal, everything I do be going up I’m on my vertical/Yes, I’m a girl and go harder than n***as do.”
Next in line was YBN Cordae, who opts for a slower, more bass-heavy instrumental to show off his lyrical prowess: “The friendliest n***as, the enviest n***as, been that way since the beginning, ’til infinity, n***a/Everything is on the ups but can he deliver?/I’ll far surpass, expectations, the stars amass”
Following Cordae’s more orthodox approach to the renowned cypher series, Blueface stepped up to the plate to drench audiences in his off-kilter West Coast flow: “My sh*t ruthless, I need a Kim Possible to play with my Rufus/Famous Cryp, if I pulled up then she blew it/Hate to be my ex-b*tch ’cause she salty like some mucus.”
