Kim Kardashian has recently gone public with her criminal justice reform work that has reportedly freed 17 prisoners. According to TMZ, Kim and her legal team have quietly helped these inmates gain freedom over the last three months or so. Now, an official press release sent to ELLE reveals that the reality star will executive produce an Oxygen film. Titled Kim Kardashian: The Justice Project, the documentary aims to capture her "efforts to secure freedom for Americans who she believes have been wronged by the justice system."
You may remember when Kim garnered media attention last year when she petitioned President Trump to commute the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson in Alabama. Johnson was a nonviolent drug offender who was later granted clemency.
The previously mentioned releases are a part of the 90 Days of Freedom campaign created by Kardashian’s lawyer Brittany K. Barnett, co-founder of the Buried Alive advocacy group. The campaign also is spearheaded by lawyer MiAngel Cody of The Decarceration Collective. TMZ reports it is putting the First Step Act to work which was passed by Congress and signed into law last year by President Donald Trump following Johnson’s release.
Later in the press release, Oxygen executive vice president Rod Aissa shared more on the upcoming film:
"Oxygen is tremendously excited to work with some of the biggest names in the industry on such important projects. This year we’ve increased our original hours by more than 30-percent, and we’ll keep ramping up our programming efforts as more fans flock to the network to experience best in class content."
