Last week James Blake, in partnership with Spotify, launched a short film surrounding his latest album Assume Form via the music streaming platform. Now the mini-documentary has surfaced via the artist’s YouTube page, allowing fans to get a glimpse of Blake’s thoughts surrounding his most ambitious project to date. The new film, directed by Babak Khoshnoud, is set to the backdrop of Blake playing out the album’s title track, intercutting clips of the artist being interviewed and more.
James Blake addressed much of the mysterious aura surrounding his latest project, talking about his own artistic progression as well as his output with the album. He addresses how many fans disliked the project, hoping it would have tilted towards his older sound – which he describes as an alias that he created, and not necessarily himself. Other topics such as melancholy and even playing his music to his mother are discussed, revealing a unique look into Blake’s persona, and ultimately, his direction as an artist and as a human.
