Ice Cream Hit Salt & Straw Sets Sights on a Busy Pasadena Stretch Next

Plus new tacos in Highland Park, and lots of new chefs to know

Ice cream wins

Salt & Straw is back for more, setting up a new expansion into Pasadena. The popular Portland-born ice cream shop already has locations across the city, including on Larchmont, on Abbot Kinney, and in the Arts District, but this is their first foray into the greater San Gabriel Valley. The plan is to open at 39 W. Colorado Blvd. in Old Pasadena sometime this fall.

Inside the Atrium

Former Triniti chef Joseph Geiskopf is back in the spotlight with an upcoming collaboration dinner at Atrium in Los Feliz on Tuesday, August 27. The multi-course affair runs $130 a head, and should serve as a nod to where Geiskopf’s cooking is heading next (though no formal plans have yet been announced).

Even more eats

There’s a new taco spot to embrace in Highland Park. The former Taco Fix is now Baja Cali Fish & Tacos, a small Southern California chain with locations in West Covina, Pasadena, Long Beach, and beyond. The restaurant is open now.

Going for Gusto

Upcoming Downtown wellness restaurant Gusto Green has signed its executive chef. Michael Magliano is on to help the Gusto 54 group with the new project, after previous stints working for Soho House, Animal, APL, and others. The restaurant is still slated for an early 2020 arrival.

More names to know

Speaking of chef announcements, Pacifique in West Hollywood has a new culinary team as well, including new culinary director Wes Whitsell who is returning to Los Angeles after running Manuela in the Arts District a couple of years back. Jeff Luster is on as chef de cuisine, having previously worked at Michael’s.

One big party

West Hollywood has an upcoming Eat + Drink Week going on starting October 18. The ten-day event is meant to celebrate the many award-winning restaurants within its borders, particularly those mentioned in the recent Michelin guide, and includes one-off eating and drinking deals and events.
