‘Wearing suffragette white is a respectful message of solidarity with women across the country’

Next week will see Trump’s State of the Union address, an annual message from the President of the United States before a joint session of congress.
The event will see State of the Union attendees from both parties, but it’s not the speakers or even the speeches that will get the world talking next week. Instead, it’s the dress code, with women urged to wear Suffragette white.

A group of Democratic women in the House are encouraging women from both parties to wear white to the State of the Union, a symbol of their support of women’s rights.
I wore all-white today to honor the women who paved the path before me, and for all the women yet to come.
From suffragettes to Shirley Chisholm, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the mothers of the movement.

This of course isn’t the first time that female lawmakers have made the collective decision to wear white to make a statement, with the same group coordinating Democratic women to wear white at Trump’s 2017 address.
Lois Frankel went on to explain how there have never been so many Democratic women in Congress as there are today, making the statement all the more powerful.
We’ll be tuning in on February 5 to see.
