While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are the definition of marriage goals, a decade ago that wouldn’t have been the case, with Prince William popping the question to Kate Middleton in October 2010.
But while the prince proposed on a private holiday to Kenya, the couple only officially announced the exciting news one month later – something that reportedly came as a huge surprise – especially the paps who only found out at lunchtime on the day it was shared with the world.

Speaking to HELLO!, royal photographer Tim Rooke recalled the moment he found out. ‘When they announced the engagement of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I don’t think we were expecting it,’ he explained. ‘We found out at lunchtime and we were invited to St James’ Palace.’
Tim revealed the main difference between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s announcement and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s public reveal was the size of the crowd.
‘Whereas with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex I think we were expecting them to make an announcement and it was a much bigger photo call for Harry and Meghan, with 100 members of media there, and it was outside too,’ he explained. ‘I think we were expecting to be told and then we were just told to turn up at Kensington Palace.’
Tim went on to reveal what happens behind the scenes, and revealed all photographers picked a number out of a bag, which correlated to the order they were allowed into the palace to take shots of the duo.
Kate and William went on to marry in April 2011, and now have three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis together.
While the Duke and Duchess are in line to become King and Queen, it looks like they are taking this time to enjoy family life.
