British fashion designer Grace Wales Bonner has interviewed Solange for The Face following the songstresses first live performance of her hit album When I Get Home at the designers "Devotional Sound" event.
Grace Wales Bonner was recently awarded $250,000 USD for winning the 2019 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund and now goes on to show her multidisciplinary talents in an intimate interview with Solange. In the interview, Solange discusses the voices that have inspired her to get to where she is today, as well as the idea of devotion and the vast array of research that goes into her work.
The interview follows an hour-long live performance at St Peter’s Church in midtown Manhattan, New York. The performance was a follow on from her "A Time For New Dreams" exhibition at the Serpentine Galleries in London, which previously saw the likes of Sampha perform for the ritualistic and meditative "Devotional Sound" event.
In a space which has held memorials for Jean-Michel Basquiat and John Coltrane, Solange and Grace Wales Bonner sat down and discussed everything from what it took to develop When I Get Home to life lesson, collaborations and freedom. Read the full interview on The Face and check out the live performance above, which sees Solange, Laraaji and Standing on the Corner grace the stage.
