Guillermo del Toro and director André Øvredal’s upcoming adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’s children’s horror book trilogy Stories to Tell in the Dark has debuted its final trailer, showcasing the new monster Jangly Man. The plot of the film has been described as such:
It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.
The film had a panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year, where a poster featuring the Jangly Man debuted, alongside with some of the new footage featured in the trailer above. It was at the convention producer del Toro mentioned why this film isn’t an anthology movie, stating: “When we started talking about this about five years ago, I had to think about it. Of course, I love the books, but I didn’t want to do an anthology film, because anthology films are always as bad as the worst story in them."
