DRAM has enlisted a slew of talent for his duet with singer/songwriter H.E.R., including production work from watt, drums by Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, bass from Pino Palladino, and keyboard work from Ivan Neville of Dumpstaphunk.
"The Lay Down" features smooth vocals from both singers alongside some tasty instrumentation and an electric guitar solo from watt to close out the track.
DRAM also tweeted an accompanying note for the forthcoming single, calling out the state of R&B. “No one sings anymore. Ain’t no true SANGERS out there! No one’s taking it to the stage. Nobody’s pouring their heart out, but that pattern stops here!”, DRAM wrote.
He also stated that his upcoming album will signal a shift in his music:
"Over the last 2 years, I’ve been working on my sophomore album while simultaneously going through the ups and downs of life in general. As a result of this, many of these experiences have been heavily reflected in my work moving forward. As I mature, so does my sound. I’ve always considered myself more of a singer-songwriter so this time around, I’m really owning my R&B and soul roots. So, as you can tell, I’m excited about introducing you to the new Big Baby DRAM chapter."
