Daniel Arsham has partnered with RIMOWA for a Future Relic-inspired vintage suitcase sculpture. The limited-edition piece is influenced by Arsham’s eroded aesthetic, looking as if it has been unearthed from the debris of an archaeological site.
The cast is a tarnished version of a classic RIMOWA aluminum suitcase and comes complete with all the essential Arsham Studio-branded gear such as handling gloves and a booklet of background information. Each suitcase relic is engraved with its edition number and comes packaged in an exclusive RIMOWA hand luggage case.
Daniel Arsham and RIMOWA will also be selling a one-of-one version of the vintage suitcase relic at a rare Sotheby’s auction. The single-lot auction consists of the sculpture itself, as well as a signed drawing of the artwork, a personalized letter from Arsham, and a special sticker set designed by the duo. The auction will be held online only from May 2 to May 13.
For those looking to purchase the standard collaborative relic, head to the RIMOWA New York store on Madison Avenue from May 2–5 and online, where the suitcase will be available for pre-sale as it releases alongside the New York Frieze art fair. For those who miss out then, the piece will release again on May 17, where will be priced at $2,200 USD.
