Perhaps the most anticipated show of Paris Fashion Week, Chanel, has just taken place. Only days after the passing of the late Karl Lagerfeld, the luxury fashion house brought an audience into the legendary Grand Palais, where a winter village set had been created – complete with snow, slopes and all. The Fall/Winter 2019 range marks Lagerfeld’s last collection for the house, and the show was an emotional homage to the designer’s vast career, history and work at the label.
Chanel muse Cara Delevingne opened the show clad in a black and white tweed outfit, coat and hat, in true Chanel fashion. As the collection went on we saw a handful of layered outerwear pieces, long coats, wide-leg pants and luxury accessories, which transitioned into a selection of bold pink, turquoise and red looks. We also saw a luxury take on the puffer jacket, as well as winter-inspired fall boots with fur detailing throughout. Of course, a range of new bags was debuted, ranging from cross-body pieces to sleek bumbags.
Towards the end of the show, Penelope Cruz and Kaia Gerber also walked the runway, before all the models came out to bid a final farewell to the iconic designer. The emotional show brought tears from both the models and the audience, and invitations featured an illustration of Lagerfeld hand-in-hand with Coco Chanel, complete with “the beat goes on…” written across. Needless to say, the show paid homage to the legendary creative in the best way, honoring his legacy at Chanel.
