Brooklinen
- Brooklinen has been one of the Insider Picks team’s favorite bedding companies for years, making sheets and comforters we simply love.
- I decided to try Brooklinen’s All-Season Down Alternative Comforter ($199 and up) because I am sensitive to a never-ending list of allergens and typically run cold. It was the perfect weight and regulated my temperature through the night.
In college, I wanted crisp and luxurious hotel-quality sheets for my bed, but I didn’t want to pay an outrageous price for them. Brooklinen, an online bedding startup company that is loved by so many for their luxurious bedding at reasonable prices, was my answer.
I used Brooklinen’s Luxe Core Sheet Set to completely transform my bed, and because of my sheets, I actually looked forward to sleeping on a twin-size dorm bed every night. While I have been sleeping on Brooklinen sheets for years, I only recently tried out one of their comforters.
Brooklinen uses two different fills for its comforters: natural down and down alternative. Both types of comforters have a 400-thread count cotton sateen shell and feature a baffle-box construction, meaning that the filling won’t move around inside the comforter since it is contained in its place.
The comforters are available in three sizes: twin/twin XL, full/queen, and king/California king. There are also two weights for each type of comforter: all-season and lightweight. The warmer all-season comforters have 700 fill power while the slightly cooler lightweight comforters have 600 fill power. The comforters are fluffy as soon as you take them out of the box, so there’s no waiting for them to reshape.
Putting a comforter inside of a duvet cover and getting it to stay there can be quite a battle, so I was extremely grateful for the loops in all four corners. They made the process so much easier.

My experience with Brooklinen’s down alternative comforter
Since I have a myriad of allergies, I opted for the Brooklinen down alternative comforter, which is hypoallergenic and vegan. I chose the all-season weight because I tend to feel cold, especially during the night and wanted to be prepared for New York winters.
These down alternative comforters are made with Brooklinen’s hypoallergenic polyfill, which consists of shaved microfibers designed to mimic the feel and weight of down. The all-season weight comforter is made with 53 ounces of hypoallergenic polyfill, making it a bit warmer than the lightweight comforter made with 39 ounces of polyfill, which is perfect for warmer weather.
Out of the package, I was initially worried that the comforter wouldn’t be heavy enough for me. I tend to sleep better with a few blankets layered on my bed or a weighted blanket. Surprisingly, though, I haven’t felt the need to add extra blankets. This comforter has the perfect amount of fluff and warmth, all while being lighter than what I am used to.
More recently, I’ve been on the hotter side at night and freezing in the morning. But I am thoroughly impressed by how well the all-season comforter is able to regulate my body temperature, keeping me cool enough at night to fall asleep and warm enough in the mornings so I don’t wake up shivering.
I love Brooklinen’s sheets because they make me feel like I’m sleeping on top of a cloud. Similar to the sheets, the all-season comforter makes me feel like I’m sleeping underneath a cloud. With the sheets and comforter combined, I sleep in a fluffy, perfectly temperature-regulated cloud every night.
The bottom line
I’ve yet to have a bad night’s sleep since I started using this comforter. The only downside is that it could be a little wider. I ordered the king-size comforter (106 inches by 90 inches), and it barely covers the sides of my standard king-size bed. Aside from that, I really love everything else about this comforter.
Brooklinen’s down alternative comforter was what my bed was missing to make every night even dreamier.
