Every awards season has a breakout star, a buzzy up-and-comer who becomes a fixation for the entire entertainment industry. And though the 2019 red carpet festivities just kicked off with Sunday’s Golden Globes, Yalitza Aparicio — star of Netflix’s Roma, recent Vogue Mexico cover-gracer and advocate for Latinx representation in Hollywood — is quickly becoming an industry favorite. (No disagreements here.) What’s more, she also happens to have a killer sense of style.
After appearances in Adeam at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and silver Miu Miu for the Golden Gobes, Aparicio continued her enviable style run in Prada at the Film Critics Circle Awards in New York City on Monday. The cocktail-length black dress featured a mock neck, three-quarter-length sleeves and large geometric jewel embellishment. The modestly cut garment may have verged on stuffy and overly prim, had it not been for Aparicio’s expert styling choices (informed by stylist Sophie Lopez) of simple black pumps, an un-fussy ponytail, glowy highlighted skin and a warm, rosy lip color.
