Holiday arrival
The Shelby has opened along West Third Street. The casual dinner and drinks spot features a menu from chef Sascha Lyon (Commerson, Employees Only) along with a full lineup of cocktails and, eventually, late night hours. For now it’s mostly just doing bar bites and limited hours through the holidays (7 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily), with a fuller reveal to come on January 3. 8445 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles, CA.
Cocktail destinations
TimeOut has released its annual list of best Los Angeles bars, winding its way from Apotheke in Chinatown to Imperial Western Beer Company and beyond. Funnily enough, the only bar of the ten that is west of La Brea is Employees Only.
The new year look
Kismet is switching things up for New Year’s Eve, working a fun variety of Chinese-inspired dishes for $80 a head. The menu includes options like smoked plum and scallion pancakes, mapo tofu, and cold skin noodles with mushrooms and walnuts. Reservations can be made now through Resy.
Macheen cuisine
LA Taco digs into Macheen, the Smorgasburg vendor doing Alta California cuisine for the masses. Don’t miss the Filipino longanisa tacos.
Udon arrival
Marugame Udon has expanded again, this time to the Glendale Galleria. That’s per the Los Angeles Daily News, which notes the first official day as tomorrow.
