PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Portland Timbers will play Los Angeles FC at Providence Park in the club’s 2019 home opener.
The announcement was made Thursday as MLS unveiled details for each club’s home-opening match for its 24th season.
Portland will open the 2019 campaign with an extended series of road games due to completion work on a multiplhase, $74 million stadium-expansion project that’ll add 4,000 new seats to Providence Park.
The Timbers will open the season on the road on Saturday, March 2 — taking on the Colorado Rapids. Additionally, the Timbers will serve as the opponent in the home opener for expansion side FC Cincinnati, with Portland set to face the new Eastern Conference club on Sunday, March 17.
The June 1 match marks the fourth time the Timbers open their home schedule against a Western Conference opponent. Portland is 5-0-3 in its MLS home openers.
The complete regular season schedule will be announced in January.
