Los Angeles institution Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles is close to opening its new flagship location. The corner standalone building at La Brea and Washington should be open by the end of the month.
This new Roscoe’s is a ground-up build, meaning the company got to design every aspect of the building, kitchen, and dining area. There’s even a large parking lot on site, though it’s sure to fill up early. Reps for the restaurant say the space is all but complete, though staff training and kitchen testing will take a bit of time. Both the building and the land are owned by Roscoe’s well-known original owner Herb Hudson, so the company is fine to take its time; they don’t seem to be going anywhere.
The same cannot be said for the Pico Boulevard location of Roscoe’s, which will shutter not long after the new location gets up and running. This longstanding location has perhaps more history behind it than the others, considering then-President Obama captured the local news cycle when he made an unscheduled stop there back in 2011. There is no official closure date for that location.
The newest Roscoe’s location is a big win for the company, which is still feeling the effects of a protracted bankruptcy judgement from several years ago. Reps for the company say the business is doing as well as ever, and there is talk of several new expansions in the future. It’s also worth noting that this upcoming La Brea location sits directly across the street from the site of the first-ever Roscoe’s, which was long ago demolished.
