Rodarte is coming home. In the lead-up to NYFW, California natives Kate and Laura Mulleavy will present their Fall 2019 Rodarte collection in Los Angeles, just a stone’s throw from where they were raised, and still live, in Pasadena. For those who have followed the sisters’ careers, the move West makes sense: Every single collection they’ve designed has referenced an aspect of California and its rich culture, from the wood paneling of their parents’ house to the redwood forests—in many ways, it’s surprising that the duo has waited over 10 years to produce an event on their home turf.
“California is one of our most important influences and having our first show in Los Angeles is a dream we’ve long wished to make reality,” the Mulleaveys wrote Vogue. “We are proud to bring our show to L.A. with our amazing team and our collaborators, Alex de Betak and Bureau Betak and Brian Phillips and Black Frame, and to be presenting the show with JNSQ wines as they introduce an elegant rosé cru.” Take special note of that last bit—the as-yet-to-launch JNSQ wines will be debuting a Rodarte-tinged rosé at the Fall 2019 show to complement the sisters’ dreamy confections on the runway.
As for the logistics, Rodarte’s departure will not only leave a floral-shaped hole in the New York Fashion Week calendar, but potentially overlap with late January and early February’s many Fashion Weeks. Between January 5 and February 8, Vogue Runway will also be covering men’s shows in London, Florence, Milan, and Paris; the couture shows in Paris; Copenhagen Fashion Week; and Stockholm Fashion Week.
