Our week just got so much better. On Thursday morning, GQ Magazine revealed the cover of its music issue for February 2019: Frank Ocean, photographed by Alasdair McLellan and dressed in a floral turtleneck from Prada. This is the first GQ issue released from newly promoted editor-in-chief Will Welch.
Unfortunately, GQ didn’t deliver the in-depth celebrity profile we were hoping for. (The cover story is formatted as a Q&A, using a phone chat between Ocean and the co-hosts of his Apple Music show “Blonded Radio,” Vegyn and Emmett Cruddas.) But that doesn’t mean we didn’t learn a couple of style and grooming tidbits from one of our favorite artists. For starters, male fashion enthusiasts around the world are probably adding this SCOTTeVEST Jacket to their online carts right now.
“Men need to get hip to the SCOTTeVEST,” said Ocean. “You can put anything in it. Your water bottle, your cell phone, your motorcycle helmet — you can put all that shit inside the SCOTTeVEST. That’s the infomercial vest, really deep pockets.”
He’s also a fan of a good night cream — “That’s the life hack right there.” — and a go-to skin-care routine at night, which involves a gentle face wash, moisturizing and even some retinol. Though, Ocean is still looking to Pharrell for the true secret to flawless skin: “It’s been all these years, and Pharrell still hasn’t given us the keys yet,” he told Cruddas and Vegyn. “He just says ‘exfoliate,’ but it’s not just ‘exfoliate’: We need more keys.” (We 100-percent agree. Tell us your ways, P!)
So while we don’t have new music from Ocean just yet, at least we can add some new items to our wardrobe and skin-care routine for now.
