A vacant building near Metro’s Expo/Bundy Station could be making way for a much larger commercial development.
The approximately 50,000-square-foot structure, located at 11801 W. Olympic Boulevard, was most recently occupied by a Sports Chalet prior to the chain’s bankruptcy and subsequent demise in 2016. An application submitted yesterday to the City of Los Angeles calls for redeveloping the approximately 1.64-acre site with a nine-story, 127,983-square-foot commercial building featuring 594 on-site parking spaces.
Property records link the proposed development to the retailer Bed, Bath & Beyond. The New Jersey-based company built an 85,000-square-foot store on the opposite side of Olympic Boulevard in 2008.
Additional details regarding the project are not clear based on its case summary sheet with the Department of City Planning.
A number of similarly scaled developments are also in the works for the Olympic corridor, including the Martin Expo Town Center mixed-use project and the proposed expansion and modernization of the 1980s Trident Center complex.
The project site is covered by the recently-adopted Expo Corridor Transit Neighborhood Plan, which rezoned some areas surrounding four stations on the Expo Line.
