The S&P 500 fell 2.7% in shortened, preholiday trading Monday, digging itself deeper into the red. Last week the index had its biggest weekly drop since the 2008 financial crisis, and it’s down nearly 20% from its September peak. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 653.17 points Monday, or 2.9%, to 21,792.20.
