At its meeting next week, the West Hollywood Planning Commission’s Design Review Subcommittee is scheduled to review plans from Malibu-based developer 7424 WH, LLC for a mixed-use building just south of Plummer Park.
The project, which would rise at 7424 Santa Monica Boulevard, calls for the construction of a five-story building featuring 40 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments – each of which will feature a private balcony – above 2,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and 47 parking stalls on a single basement level. The new construction would replace a pool supply store and a parking lot.
Pasadena-based Adept Urban is designing the project, with a strong vertical orientation with a “castellated” appearance, according to a review by architect Gwynne Pugh. White framing elements at the top three levels float above the second floor, separating it from the ground level.
Pugh’s report recommends to the Design Review Subcommittee describes the project as “well organized,” and notes that it “adds an interesting texture to the fabric of the buildings on the street.” Pugh recommends that 7424 Santa Monica should be approved.
A similar development is planned three blocks west at the site of a car wash at 7617 Santa Monica Boulevard.
Adept Urban’s other Los Angeles-area developments include an adaptive reuse project now under construction in Pasadena and a mixed-use building recently completed in Glendale.
