A shallow magnitude 6.3 earthquake was reported Tuesday nine miles from Nishinoomote, Japan, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 4:39 a.m. PST time at a depth of 21.7 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 49 miles from Ibusuki and 55 miles from Kanoya.
