Los Feliz’s legendary former Mexico City space won’t be down for long, as Eater has learned that new tenants are already inside and working on a 2019 arrival. The new restaurant does not yet have a formal name or public chef attached, but there are a few known details available right now.
First up is the restaurant group behind the quiet project: Alliance Hospitality Group. That team is responsible for names like Comoncy, Coral Tree Cafe, and of course Baltaire in Brentwood. They’re mostly Westside/Valley operators, so this new Los Feliz location will be a decided change of pace.
As for the food, a couple of in-the-know folks tell Eater that the menu will stick to a modern Mexican food playbook, partially as an homage to the previous tenant and as a way to ride the current trend, with Enrique Olvera and Daniela Soto-Innes coming to town and the new Chulita opening in Venice several months back.
There’s no word on an opening date so far, but construction is happening now. The Mexico City has been closed since the fall, ending a quarter-century run for the business along busy Hillhurst.
2121 Hillhurst Ave., Los Angeles, CA.
