Entering Week 16, the Los Angeles Rams are facing adversity for the first time in the Sean McVay era. How they handle it will be as interesting as anything you’ll see the rest of the season.
When the Los Angeles Rams finally arrived at their bye week following a dramatic 54-51 win against the Kansas City Chiefs, it looked to be relatively clear sailing to an NFC West title, a really good shot at the top seed in the NFC, and a possible MVP.
Then they took some time off, and ever since, they haven’t looked the same. Not remotely the same as the team who’d run up an 11-1 record, was scoring points by the bunches, and seemed the toast of the league with the brilliant Sean McVay.
When the Rams returned to the field on the road against the Detroit Lions in Week 14, they looked a little sloppy and a little slow. Most noticeable was quarterback Jared Goff who was missing on passes he normally didn’t.
Against the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night prime time, the Rams didn’t even score a touchdown, Goff would throw 4 interceptions, and running back Todd Gurley was MIA with a mere 28 yards.
What was a blip progressed to a full blown trend as Los Angeles would lose a second straight game, this time at home and as a double digit favorite to an injury riddled Philadelphia Eagles with their backup quarterback Nick Foles, 30-23.
The Rams have two games to get things right again as they close out their 2018 season against the NFC West with the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16 and the San Francisco 49ers in the home finale. The question now is can they right the ship and save a season where it seemed like a Super Bowl was part of the mix.
