When the Los Angeles Lakers looked at the schedule and saw they were ending a road trip against the Brooklyn Nets, they likely assumed that it would be an easy win for them. Even a few weeks ago, they would have been fair in assuming that the 8-18 Nets weren’t up to the challenge of taking on LeBron James. But with a five-game winning streak in tow and a roster that gave James fits last season, the Nets suddenly look like a team that nobody wants to play, let alone on the road with an entire trip behind them.
The Lakers are coming off of a very disappointing loss to the Washington Wizards on Sunday, and want to end this swing through the Eastern Conference on a high note. But if they play the way that they did on Sunday, they will lose to a well-coached Nets team that does not let lazy contenders off of the hook. Here are the starting lineups for both sides in tonight’s battle, with Brandon Ingram and JaVale McGee still out and the Nets building around a former top Lakers draft pick.
