Plus baking for charity, and big Golden Gopher news
Burger update
Two Eastside heavy-hitters have teamed up for a brand new bar burger, with cocktail spot ETA in Highland Park collaborating with Mr. Holmes Bakehouse on a beef and bun concoction that comes on a potato bun from the bakery, and is laced with housemade pimiento cheese and one serious parmesan crisp. It’s worth noting that ETA’s Ryan Julio and Matt Glassman are Father’s Office alums, so presumably they’ve got a few burgers under their belts. The new evening menu item kicks off this weekend.
Truck time
There’s a big food truck party happening at Malibu Wines & Beer Garden in January. The West Hills spot will be partying with Cousins Maine Lobster, Black Sugar Rib Co., and others on January 5 from noon to 9 p.m., with live music to boot.
Food for good
LA Food Bank’s big annual charity event is tomorrow. The Billy Harris-hosted party features names like Bruce Kalman, Antonia Lofaso, and Dave Grohl. Tickets are all-inclusive at $100 apiece.
Bar bites
Drinking at the Golden Gopher in Downtown just got a little bit better, thanks to next-door neighbor Cassell’s. The burger spot has a kiosk setup inside the adjacent bar where hungry drinkers can order full meals, and be texted to come pick up their food next door when it’s ready. That’s genius.

The uglier the better
And speaking of drinking in Downtown: Caña Rum Bar is hosting an ugly sweater Christmas party on December 24, from 8 p.m. to close. The event comes with $9 mojitos all night and special gifts for those who dress up.
Not going anywhere
Matthew Biancaniello is keeping himself busy as his team works to re-open his cocktail spot Mon-Li out in Malibu. Biancaniello is teaming up with Laurent Quenioux’s Ma Maison underground dinners to do a couple of $150 blowout meals that run six courses, with drinks, and lots of cocktails. The two-night event runs December 28 and 29.
Baking for a cause
Some of LA’s biggest culinary names are coming together for a bake sale for charity tomorrow. The benefit event features goods from people like Andy Kadin of Bub and Grandma’s, Jeremy Fox of Rustic Canyon, Jessica Koslow of Sqirl, Nicole Rucker of Fiona, Roxana Jullapat of Friends & Family, and many, many more. It’s all going down starting at 10 a.m. at Psychic Wines, with proceeds benefitting California wildfire relief efforts.
